Why I Got Into Coffee: A Journey of Impact

Dear friends and coffee afficionados,

Since my departure from the Biden-Harris Administration, life has taken an unexpected turn—one that has ignited my passion and purpose.  During a trip to Colombia earlier this year, I quickly was able to recognize the level of poverty that has taken over the region.  This level of poverty reminded me of the poverty I had once witnessed during my service in Iraq.  Due to this reason, I was compelled to do something.  For these reasons, I decided to shift the focus of my career from policy development to creating change through action.  Now, I am aware that this is not the “silver bullet” solution in stopping poverty throughout Latin America, but I strongly believe that changes can be made through this new venture.

The Heart of Mi Café: Latin America

At Mi Café, we partner together with coffee cooperatives to bring their premium coffee products to new customers.  Currently, our coffee products are directly brought to you from the hills of Antioquia, Colombia.  This is the first step in the Mi Café journey as we are looking to expand to other countries where we can create economic development vehicles that can help create new opportunities.

Making a Difference

1. Economic Empowerment: We’ve replaced illicit crops with sustainable agriculture, providing local farmers with dignified livelihoods. Their hands, weathered by countless generations of cultivation, now bring you a coffee that transcends taste.

2. Law Enforcement & Veteran-Owned Distribution: Our distribution channels are owned and operated by Law Enforcement and Veteran distribution lines, ensuring that each cup tells the story of the people who bring you some of the best coffee around from the hills of Colombia to your coffee cup at home. Through these channels, economic vitality is fostered through these efforts.

Inspired by Compassion

Why Mi Café? During my days in Iraq, I witnessed poverty on a scale that shook me to my core. In Latin America, I saw a level of poverty that I had not seen since those days in Iraq. I felt it was necessary for me to help in some way. Mi Café was born from a desire to do something tangible, to uplift communities and create lasting change.
